Datamars has released its first corporate ESG and Sustainability Report, showcasing the organisation’s progress in this space, including increasing renewable energy use 33% globally between 2020 and 2023, and decreasing its overall energy consumption 10% in the same period, and with a continued decline. The company is on track to achieve its target of 80% renewable energy use by the end of 2025.

CEO for Datamars Daniele Della Libera says sustainability is at the heart of who Datamars is, what Datamars does, and the solutions the company delivers for its customers.

“Over the years we’ve seen increasing pressure on scarce resources due to the earth’s growing and changing population, as well as the impacts of climate change. As a business we know we can’t solve the world’s major challenges on our own, but we can contribute in a way that matters.

“We’re delivering technology solutions that help people and organisations around the globe use the power of data, insights and technology so they can make better informed decisions to improve the sustainability and profitability of their own practices. We also take this approach for our own operations at Datamars – we’re relentlessly aspirational about performing as a responsible global business – maximising the positive impact we can have and minimising any negative impact.”

In line with the organisation’s purpose of making a measurable difference, Datamars has an ambitious goal of ‘reaching Net Zero emissions across the value chain by 2050’, with shorter term 2025 and 2030 targets in line with SBTI (Science Based Targets Initiative) guidance. Energy consumption makes up a key part of this, with the company’s focus being reduction of overall energy consumption alongside our target for increasing renewable energy use.

In addition to Datamars’ base Net Zero decarbonisation commitments, we’ve chosen a target of ‘100% of energy used across the global group of companies coming from certified renewable sources by 2030, and to reach 80% by 2025’. And as part of the company’s journey to embed more sustainable ways of working, Datamars sites in Thailand and Spain achieved ISO50001 Energy Efficiency Management certification, with all other operational hubs being on track to achieve the accreditation by the end of 2026.

Della Libera adds: “We believe in utilising systems and processes to enable environmentally conscious behaviours to become part of how we operate, and intrinsic to who we are as a team. Alongside wider efforts to decarbonise and improve the use of renewable resources – both through sourcing and expanding on-site production, this culture-led approach is imperative in driving and embedding genuine and impactful change.

“While we still have a long journey ahead in this space, we’re proud of the progress we’ve made to date and the learning we’ve done. Our first ESG and Sustainability report outlines this progress and is evidence of our commitment as a company to making a measurable difference.”

While our official 2024 reporting will be released in the coming months, consumption across the group has continued to track in the right direction, with a further 5% decrease realised between 2023 and 2024.

*Datamars considers Net Zero GHG emissions to mean reducing its emissions to a state in which the company has no net impact on the climate. This means cutting Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions as close to zero as possible and neutralising any residual emissions, ensuring they’re at an acceptable level.
