In early December 2021, the flagship Datamars Livestock activity monitoring solution, Tru-Test Active Tag, was successfully installed on Pickart Dairy Farm in Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, United States.
This total monitoring system, released in 2021, provides livestock producers like the highly regarded Pickart operation which runs over 1000 cows, with data that combines gesture recognition and multi-metric analysis to deliver accurate, reliable, and timely estrus (and in future, health) information about every cow in the herd, including alerts. This data adds a great deal of value to a livestock operation, supporting better-informed decisions around breeding (and in the future, also animal health, early disease management, and feed). Better informed decisions help ensure time, resources, and costs are used as efficiently as possible. Depending on how many animals the operation has, the savings can be substantial.
Tru-Test Active Tag also helps staff to perform at their best, with the right information at their fingertips, giving dairy farmers peace of mind that everything is in hand.
“The install was easy and seamless.” says Chris Roeder, Solutions Architect Smart Farming, “It’s an extremely efficient system, with most of the time spent tagging the cows and onboarding them.”
The solution has already made a huge impact on the Pickart Dairy farm, who have previously never had an activity monitoring system. When herdsman, Joe Statler, fell ill he was able to continue monitoring his cows remotely.
“Without going on-site, I was able to watch the data of the cows post-calving. This was of great value to us as the first ten days during calving are the most crucial time when monitoring for disease.” Says Joe.
